講題是介紹 這次女性影展的焦點影人 Julie Dash

當年，曾有段時間，我完全覺得自己也是黑人。雖然我根本連邊都沾不上，但我覺得我完全理解黑人在主流文化受到的不平等，理解他們想用口述歷史超越文字，超越被歐洲白人控制的語言、文化和社會規範，而Julie Dash的名作Daughters of the Dust就是其中最能表達黑人文化的一部非線性敘事的女性電影，她曾是大家的偶像。沒想到她竟然要來台灣ㄟ

Hello everyone,

I am going to give an intro speech on Julie Dash for the upcoming Women’s Film Festival in Taipei.  “Daughters of the Dust” is the opening film at this years’ Women Make Waves Film Festival in Taiwan.  The film brought me so much memory of my school days at the US.  I first heard of this film and Julie Dash at a class I took outside of my school.  That was a class on Third World Cinema and the teacher is an angry African-American.  She is not that academic compared with the teachers we knew at NYU, but she was so passionate about the subject.  The class was on Third World but she didn’t mention any Asian films, all films in the class were Black cinema.  There were films from Africa and several Caribbean islands and even black cinema in England. I LOVE her passion on the subject.  She made me felt that I could identify with all the pain and sorrow that the African American had suffered. I felt so related to the Black cinema at that time. Through my professor, Ms. Claire Andrade-Watkins, I felt connected to African American and Julie Dash became my idol due to Claire spoke highly about her film.  Now, I will have the honor to introduce Julie Dash.
